Forum Countdown | 「Scientific Intelligence, Shaping the Future with Wisdom」Join a Journey of Scientific Intelligence Innovation at Nanyan Garden

As an emerging technological form that deeply integrates "AI" and "scientific research," AI4S (AI for Science, also known as scientific intelligence) leverages AI technologies to learn, simulate, predict, and optimize various phenomena and laws in nature and human society. It aims to solve diverse scientific problems, drive scientific discovery, and foster research innovation, thus earning the title of the "fifth paradigm of scientific research." AI4S helps establish and improve scientific and technological systems, enhance technical reserves and innovation capabilities, promote industry applications and industrial development, and inject new vitality into industrial foundation upgrading and industrial chain modernization.

On December 14, 2023, the second "Next-Post-Future" AI4S International Summit Forum, initiated by Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, will be held as part of the "Nanyan Garden · New Starting Point · New Journey" series of events celebrating the 22nd anniversary of the school’s founding. With the theme "Scientific Intelligence, Shaping the Future with Wisdom," the forum will open with a keynote impromptu speech by Academician E Weinan — titledStories of Peking University and AI4S & A Talk on AI4S Empowering Scientific Research and Industrial Transformation. The forum aims to gather cutting-edge scientific ideas, promote the cultivation and development of science and technology industries, introduce the "powerful AI engine," Support"accelerated scientific progress," form a synergy for the development of strategic scientific and technological strength, and provide an inexhaustible source of motivation for building a new model of integrated development where technology leads industry.

How does AI4S help establish and improve scientific and technological systems and enhance technical reserves and innovation capabilities? How can it promote AI4S industry applications and industrial development to inject new momentum into industrial foundation upgrading and industrial chain modernization? To address these questions, the summit forum will closely follow the pulse of AI4S development and connect with global innovative academic resources at a high level. It will invite university scholars such as Professor David Baker (Endowed Chair in Biochemistry at the University of Washington) and Professor Luo Yi (Distinguished Chair Professor at the University of Science and Technology of China) to share domestic and international academic efforts in deep learning models and related AI4S tools, as well as insights on AI4S promoting interdisciplinary collaboration. Industry experts including Dr. Liu Tieyan (Distinguished Chief Scientist at Microsoft) and Dr. Yu Fan (Software Domain Scientist at Huawei) will present advanced industrial application cases of AI4S in meteorology, biology, chemistry, and other fields. Industrial elites such as Sun Weijie (Founder and CEO of DeepMind Tech) will share perspectives on AI4S development in the era of large models, new inspirations and opportunities brought by AI4S businesses to industries, and discussions on the future of artificial intelligence in scientific research.

The road ahead is long yet promising — AI4S and S4AI hold infinite possibilities for illuminating technological innovation (comprehensive innovation). After the reports, the forum will invite a group of scholars and experts including Liu Tieyan, Hu Xiaoguang, Yu Fan, Sun Weijie, and Wu Tailin to engage in a summit dialogue, exploring the current status, challenges, and future trends of AI4S development. On the forum day, Peking University’s first batch of proposed AI4S interdisciplinary research projects will also be released and introduced, further advancing AI4S exploration and demonstrating Peking University’s far-reaching layout in the AI4S field under the witness of all participants.
